About Dr Perel

Dr Robert Perel is a Cardiac Electrophysiologist and Cardiologist and is a Director of Queensland Cardiovascular Group.   

The main focus of Dr Perel’s clinical practice is in the field of Cardiac Electrophysiology (Heart Rhythm Disorders) and Cardiac Implanted Electronic Device management (Pacemakers and Defibrillators).   

He provides assessment and management of patients with arrhythmia symptoms, such as palpitations, slow or fast heart beats and syncope, and patients with heart rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia and inherited arrhythmia syndromes. 

Dr Perel performs diagnostic electrophysiology studies and catheter ablation including atrial fibrillation ablation, atrial flutter ablation, supraventricular tachycardia ablation, atrial ectopic ablation, ventricular ectopic ablation and ventricular tachycardia ablation.  He performs cardiac electronic device implantation, device programming and remote follow up of devices including pacemakers, implantable cardiac defibrillators, cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices, and implanted cardiac monitors. 

Dr Perel is a Queensland local, having grown up in Brisbane and with strong family links to Western Queensland.  His first degree was in Veterinary Science from the University of Queensland completed and he spent several years working as a veterinarian in both city and rural practice.  He returned to the University of Queensland to complete the UQ Graduate Medical Degree. He then undertook six years of hospital practice and Physician Training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, followed by three years of Advanced Training in Cardiology at RBWH and Princess Alexandra Hospitals.   

Dr Perel completed an additional two years of cardiology subspecialty training in Cardiac Electrophysiology at St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada gaining a Fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology with the University of Toronto. 

Dr Perel is a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society, and is recognised as a Certified Electrophysiology Specialist and Cardiac Device Specialist by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE), affiliated with the Heart Rhythm Society.

Maintaining his family links to rural Queensland, Dr Perel has been a strong supporter of Heart Of Australia, a mobile truck clinic which has been delivering cardiology and medical specialist services to regional and remote Queensland since 2014.  Dr Perel was the first cardiologist to join the Founder, Dr Rolf Gomes in providing a regular services on the truck.

Dr Perel provided a monthly service for the communities in Charleville and Roma for six years, and now continues to provide support to the service.
