Our Doctors

All patients with Atrial Fibrillation who visit QCG have access to the Atrial Fibrillation Institute. 

The Institute is led by our Cardiac Electrophysiologists but is also accessible for patients who see any of the Cardiologists at QCG. Further information on the full team of Cardiologists is available at www.qcg.com.au

Qualifications, Fellowships and Memberships

All of our Cardiologists are highly qualified, completing additional specialised training following their general cardiology qualifications. 

They include members of key professional organisations, including the Royal Australiasian College of Physicians (RACP), the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) and the international Heart Rhythm Society (HRS).

Dr Wayne Stafford

Dr Wayne Stafford, our first Cardiac Electrophysiologist and a Founding Director of Queensland Cardiovascular Group is now retired from clinical practice. The AF Institute and Queensland Cardiovascular Group wish to acknowledge Dr Stafford’s huge contribution to the field of Cardiac Electrophysiology and thank him for his many years of service to the people of Queensland.  

Dr Stafford has been a pioneer in Cardiac Electrophysiology in Queensland and during his career he was a skilled proceduralist. He has maintained strong links to research and medical education and has been a wonderful mentor to his medical colleagues.  

Dr Stafford is a University of QLD graduate with first class honours in Medicine and a University Medallist. He has been awarded Fellowships of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. He received special recognition as an international arrhythmia specialist when awarded a Fellowship of the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr Stafford undertook post graduate training in the United States as a Clinical and Research Fellow of the National Heart Foundation of Australia, studying at the University of Miami in Florida, Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. 

Dr Stafford has been previous Chairman of the Cardiac Society Working Group in pacing and electrophysiology, Chairman of the Research Committee of the St Andrew’s Medical Institute, Director of Cardiology at St Andrew’s Hospital, and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences at the Queensland University of Technology.
